Last night, Justin asked if the Calvin and Hobbes comic post was about apprehension about having children. Because really, he said, saying that he could be Calvin’s dad? Not the way to deter him from wanting kids.
If you’re familiar with Calvin and Hobbes at all, that says a lot about the character of my husband.
He might be slightly insane . . . .
Last night he took a muscle relaxant for the pain he’s been having in his leg. You never know with Justin how exactly medications are going to effect him. Some drugs that you’d expect to make a person tired, make him so hyper he can’t sleep for days. Last night’s medication made him loopy.
“Hey, hon, I’m going to go downstairs to start the water for the tortellini.”
“Okay.”
“And then I’m going to come back up and empty the dryer. And then I’ll put the wash into the dryer, so you can fill the washer again, okay?”
“What?”
“After I start the water, I’m going to come back up and empty the dryer, and then . . . .”
“ . . . .” (Blank stare from him, obviously confused.)
“Know what, stay right here, I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
I went downstairs, started dinner, came back upstairs, threw the clean laundry on the bed, moved the wet clothes to the dryer and started it, and then went back into the office where he was sitting.
“Okay, hon, the washer is empty.”
“You said a lot of words before.”
“I know.”
The good news is that his leg didn’t hurt at all for a while when the meds were at their strongest. And this morning, after taking a second dose before bed last night, his leg is hurting much less than it has for the last several days. It’s not a great improvement, but it’s an improvement and he can talk with his doctor about it.
In my half of things, I had another bad dream last night. Justin’s wonderful about not being grumpy when I wake him up in the middle of the night for cuddles because of bad dreams. Last night’s dream was convoluted for a great length of it, but the part that woke me up was Sylar, from “Heroes” trying to kill my sister. Well, he was trying to kill a whole group of us who were trying to stop him, but he specifically was targeting Erica at one point, and she’s pregnant, so I jumped at him and tried to crush him. I’m not violent by nature, but apparently if you’re wielding an enormous pizza roller knife thing that slices through metal 6-feet away and if you try to attack my sister and my unborn niece, I will try to crush the life out of you.
I’m really not sure what that says about me.
But it woke me up and I woke Justin up, who gave me cuddles and I feel back asleep to have dreams about being pregnant and living on a space ship.
My subconscious is so utterly confusing.
In other news, Hurricane Fay (or is she a tropical storm?) doesn’t look like she’s going to make it this far north, so there’s no need to worry about that. We’ve been getting rain, and we’ll probably continue to get some rain, but it hasn’t been at all bad and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get bad.
Work continues to be busy. I’ve moved back to my regular schedule of 7:30 to 5:00 Monday through Thursday and 7:30 to 11:30 on Fridays. I really didn’t like getting home so close to 7:00. Once things settle down at home (i.e. once we’re done unpacking), I really hope to get back to exercising regularly. Unpacking is taking much longer than I would prefer, but next weekend we’re going to get a lot of it done. I promised Justin that this weekend would be for relaxing, since we’ve had something happening every weekend for the last several months and we’re both exhausted. But I’m really hoping to get a lot accomplished over Labor Day weekend.
And speaking of getting things accomplished, I really need to get back to work.
