So Justin was emptying the dishwasher and cleaning up the kitchen yesterday and discovered that there was water all over the floor, running out from the kitchen sink cabinet. He opened it up, pulled everything out, and discovered that water was leaking out from the bottom of our newly working garbage disposal in great gushing amounts.
We went to Lowe’s to pick up the extending ratchet bit that Dad had (and we didn’t) in the hopes that it would solve the problem. After lots of fussing with it and then calling Dad today to make sure, Justin determined that the garbage disposal was kaput. Totally busted. Cracked beyond repair and we were going to have to get a new one.
We called our landlady to let her know about it and she said that she would cover the cost for the repair if we could replace it with the same version from Lowe’s. (By the way, I’m not paid by Lowe’s or anything — we’ve just been there A LOT this last week.) So we went out, picked up a new one, and came back home to put it back in. Since Justin had it out in the sink, he showed me what the differences were between the old one and the new one.
It was kind of impressive.
So now the new one is installed and it’s awesome. It’s double-awesome because our landlady is covering the bill for it instead of coming out of our pocket. Sometimes, it’s really nice to be a renter.
In other news, as of about 20 minutes ago, we’ve got a $0 balance on 3 of our lines of credit! (And okay, it might take until morning or Monday sometime for it to actually go into effect, but whatever.) We had one of those already paid (the Bill Me Later account for Justin’s computer we paid off a while go) and the Target card maintains a low enough balance that it’s paid off every month (and if anyone’s interested, it’s only good for using at Target and we use it because we get a 5% discount on every purchase, plus additional coupons). But now we can also add the Tire Kingdom card to that list! That one we had to pay off before the first of June because it was a 0% interest card until that date, and then we’d be paying the 28.99% interest on the whole balance from the beginning. I really didn’t want to add another >$200 to that balance. So that’s paid! Now to work on the Capital One credit card (again) and get that one down. As soon as Justin’s client sends the check (he said he sent it about a month ago, but we still haven’t seen it), then that will get a huge chunk taken out of it. And all of that feels really nice.
So, other than the garbage disposal and me paying bills, last night we went to see “The Best of Both Worlds” shown at our local movie theatre. If you can’t identify that by name, it’s the cliff-hanger of Star Trek: The Next Generation at the end of season 3 and beginning of season 4. It’s when Captain Picard gets taken by the Borg and turns into Locutus of Borg. They’ve reimaged the whole thing and we got to see a making-of bit, the two episodes back to back, and a blooper reel. And that was a whole heck of a lot of fun!
And then Justin had a doctor’s appointment today and his doctor was so excited that he’d come in when his eye was starting to do the whole turning red and hurting thing that it’s been doing for a couple years and no one has been able to really identify. So she had the lab do a bunch of bloodwork and it’ll be interesting to find out if anything comes from that. Otherwise, he is in fine health.
This weekend I’m working on getting ready for our yard sale that we’re hoping to have next weekend. I have to get everything priced and looking nice and figure out where exactly to advertise for it and figure out how we’re going to do signs for it. We’ve never done a yard sale (they don’t call then garage sales around here because so many people don’t have garages) and I’m still completely clueless about a lot of details. We’ve borrowed some tables from some friends, but that’s really the greatest progress we’ve made so far.
So that’s my main plan for the weekend.
And Erica wanted to see the goats that I drive past every day. They’re not great photos because I was sitting in my car in the middle of the road when I took them, but the goats are on private property, so I didn’t want to be trespassing.
That said, this is one of the best parts of my whole ride home (I can’t see them in the morning).
